2017 SEABL Women’s Grand Final – Geelong v Bendigo
Geelong turned around their fortunes from the Semi-Final with an outstanding defensive performance against last year’s Runners-Up to carry them into the Grand Final. They held Kilsyth to 23% shooting with only Maddie Garrick scoring in double-figures while four of the Supercats’ starters scored 11+ in a 62-43 victory. They will take a lot of confidence from previous meetings into Saturday night, having defeated Bendigo twice this season by an average of 25 points but they are treading new ground in their first Grand Final appearance since entering the league in 2011.
Launceston made a late charge at Bendigo last weekend, cutting the deficit to six points inside the final minute but a 17-point margin at three-quarter time proved too much to overcome as the Lady Braves eventually won by 11. All five starters scored 11+ but their second unit could prove the deciding factor on Saturday night after the likes of Jess Rennie and Ash Rininger helped add 11 points off the bench. Reaching the playoffs for the 12thconsecutive season, the Lady Braves are aiming for their first Championship since 2007.
